RE: US 101

I can't be much help with your question but having done the Oregon coast last summer I can say the Oregon State Parks are awesome! I don't think you could find a bad one! The highway was fine towing our 30 ft 5ver. A little rough in spots but no other problems. Cape Blanco is great...several Light Houses to see up the coast. Sunset Bay is nice. A short drive down the Cape Arago Highway and you can view seals and gray whales. Further north we stayed at Nehalem Bay and Fort Stevenscomplete with a shipwreck. If you prefer Private Campgrounds...they abound the coast! Just look at RV Park Reviews Looking for "tourist" type sights...there is the Tillamook Air Museum and the cheese factory. Sea Lion Caves. Stop for a burger in Florence at the Hot Rod Cafe right on 101. This is such a minute sampling! The Oregon Coast is a great adventure...enjoy your trip!

RE: Can my Outback take 16 " tires and what is the benefit

Biggest benefit...no blow outs from poor quality tires only road hazards! I would do it in a second if our Springdale had enough clearance but it doesn't! Just not a viable option for us at this time.

RE: FW Tires

Well, after reading soooooo many stories on 15" vs 16" tires and finding out the 16" were an option for my Arctic Fox 27-5L, today I purchased new 16" alum rims and LT235/85R-16E BFG Commercial Tires. The dealer said there should be good for 60,000 miles and speeds up to 85MPH (not that I intend to drive that fast). Also included filling with Nitrogen no charge. Thanks everyone for the input. I think that was a wise decision! Nice you had the clearance for the 16 inch...I am stuck with the 15's! Best of luck!

RE: FW Tires

I would tend to support the recommendation for an "E" rated tire if you cannot adapt to a 16 inch wheel. Be sure to check your current wheel PSI rating as the E tires take 80 PSI. Just got new Denman E and Sendel wheels. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l10/heritage93/th_Denman.jpg Happy Camping!

Awesome...I am glad they came through for you! I tend to hold a grudge...have decided to spend my money on Coach.net this time! Happy Camping!

RE: Cheapest Brand 5er

Seems to be kind of a "glass half full or half empty" question! Might get a better response by asking who makes a good quality low cost or entry-level unit! All the major manufactures make them! Ours has been great!

RE: GOOD SAM Cash Flow?

I got one too...seemed awfully early so I looked at my card to find the expiration date. Couldn't find one! Is the expiration date on the card somewhere that I can't see?

RE: Where to find Calgon?

Our Wal-Mart is the only place I can find it locally! Lot's of places can do mail order! Home Solutions Drugstore.com I am told some Safeway Stores have the Calgon Water Softener. Best of Luck!

RE: Washington State Campgrounds

A small but nice state park is Bayview Water and electricity but no sewer hookups. Lots to do in this area. A nice "get-a-way" park on the Skagit River is Howard Miller in Rockport. Not a lot to do but if you want to sit and relax, it works! Good fishing in the area! Just down the road from us is Birch Bay I haven't stayed here but my RV friends say Pioneer Park near Anacortes is nice. Close to Deception Pass, Nothern Lights Casino, LaConner etc. Happy Camping!

RE: Camping Near Billings, MT

HERE is a neat way to search for Montana State parks. The state parks I found within 25 miles of Billings don't seem to having camping sites...look like day use parks! Chief Plenty Coups (State Park) Lake Elmo (State Park) Pictograph Cave (State Park) THIS one, Cooney State Park, is a little farther away but does have camping sites. Best of luck!

RE: NEW TOW VECHILE QUESTIONS

Went from a 99 Dodge CTD 2500 2x4 long box to a new Chevy D/D 2500 4x4 long box. All I had to do was lower the hitch a couple holes in the mount. Still have 8 inch clearance at the rails. 5ver sits nearly level with a very slight nose high atitude. Axels are standard on the 5ver. Happy Camping!

RE: GM cuts Truck Production

Contrast that to a college student for a teaching degree. He earns NOTHING and is borrowing constantly from a student loan bank to pay for everything. 10's of thousands of dollars per year. 4 years of this is minimum for a degree and then one year of unpaid student teaching to qualify for a minimum teaching certificate. Now you can get a job teaching for the outlandish salary of maybe up to $45,000 a year and start paying on the $100,000 plus interest student loan now hanging around your neck. Whoops!!! Second year in teaching you are told you must upgrade your education level. So it's back to school in those do nothing summer vacation months and shuck out more of that huge salary for college classes etc to work on your masters if you have a dream of a higher yearly salary in a few years. Not to hijack the post but add a couple of comments regarding the teacher stats...Education students, at least here in WA do not student teach for an entire year. The student teaching responsibility is only one term/semester. Starting salaries are 33,000 not 45.000. I am making the 45,000 after 34 years of teaching experience. Resident tuition at Western Washington University is about $1700 per quarter which includes all the extra fees less books or special labs. Room and board is another issue! FYI...Most teachers are contracted for 180-185 7.5 hr days per year. Some have Extended Contracts for special situations (library, FFA etc.) Most teachers work many hours above and beyond what they are paid for. I do appreciate your support for professional educators! So many have ill feelings toward public schools and the mission they have been mandated. Happy Camping!

RE: Duro Tires, get rid of them?

We had Duro's on ours also! Gave us good service. Almost wished I had replaced them instead of trying to "upgrade" to Goodyear Marathons. Marathons blew up with only 600 miles. I now have Denman E rated. We shall see! I wouldn't hesitate to use the new Duro Radial but wanted an "E" rated tire. I believe Duro only comes in "D" and smaller. Best of Luck!

RE: How did you get starting in RVing?

I got too old and mamma got too tired of camping with a tent and sleeping bags tied to the back of the bikes! She can't carry enough pairs of shoes and my Heritage can't run a hairdryer! :D

RE: Re: Using Flush King at Dump Station.

I use the Flush King quite often. Last summer we stayed at a state park in Oregon. We left early the next day. There was no one waiting at the dump station so I backed flushed the tanks! Just watch the traffic...I think you can find times when the station is not being used. I believe the concern is not to take a lot of time when you have people waiting behind you. I don't think, or at least I hope, the concern is not with the practice of backflushing! :E We have some dump stations along the Interstate Rest Stops that are often not busy. I have back flushed at those locations too! We have one local Cenex (farm supply) gas station that has a RV dump which is open 24/7. It is seldom used so again, no problem. I know several people in town that tap into their home sewer system and dump when they return from each trip. Not sure about the legalities of that but not my concern.

RE: tires for my 5th wheel

I am not lucky enough to be able to use 16 inch...must stay at 15. However, pretty hard to beat the proverbial Michelin XPS if your buying 16 inch tires. Pricey! Over $200 each!

RE: What brands of tires to look at for new fiver?

The Sendel wheels are only $66 in 15 inch and $80 for the 16 inch at Gearworks Manufacturing where I bought mine. Small difference but if you buy 5 it adds up! Not sure if you got a special on shipping, but after you add their normal shipping to those prices it's basically the same as what I paid at a local dealer. No special deal for me on shipping! When I bought them I didn't know the brand. There were no other local options in that weight rating! Still, I saved the 8.7% sales tax by mail ordering.

RE: What brands of tires to look at for new fiver?

Dennis, What did it cost you to upgrade your tires/rims? My 07 Keystone Challenger came with chinese tires and steel rims and I want to upgrde also. Thanks John Sendel 16" T02 wheels = $95 each BFG Comm TA tires LT225/75R16 = $128 each Chrome metal stem = $6.50 each Chrome lugnuts = $1.75 each Mount/Balance = $10.50 each Credit for 15" tire/wheel = -$50 each A wheel/tire shop near the dealer did it for me. It was a shop that does a lot of wheel/tire work for the dealer. I negotiated the swap with the wheel/tire shop directly and paid them directly. I had the dealer drop it off and pick it up from the wheel/tire shop. That way the trailer had the new wheels and tires on it when I took delivery. Dennis The Sendel wheels are only $66 in 15 inch and $80 for the 16 inch at Gearworks Manufacturing where I bought mine. Small difference but if you buy 5 it adds up! http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l10/heritage93/th_Denman.jpg
